Sewer

General Information

The Trenton Sewer Division is responsible for maintaining over 55 miles of sanitary sewer and about a half-mile of sanitary force main. The Sewer Division also maintains one lift station in town as well. The majority of sewer mains, laterals, and manholes are owned and maintained by City staff. Our sewage is fed via gravity sewer to a lift station on the south end of town that forces the sewerage under the Great Miami River to the LeSourdsville Waste Water Treatment Plant where it is then processed. The City contracts with the Butler County Sewer Department to process our waste.

Tasks

The City takes a proactive approach with our maintenance program every year to help minimize backups and keep the wastewater flowing smoothly by performing the following tasks:

  • Inspect, clean, and camera about 4.5 miles of sewer main every year. Defects are pinpointed and repaired or replaced as needed.
  • Trained City staff inspect and test new pipe installations to ensure it has been installed properly according to City specifications.
  • Require connection to sewers if leach fields are found to be in use.
  • Immediate response to reported sewer backups.

Connection is Required

If you are located within City limits, connection to the City's sewer system is required under city ordinances.

Tap-In Fees

A permit and payment of a tap-in fee are required prior to the connection to the City's sewer system. See the City's Rate and Fee Schedule, coming soon.

Sewer Regulations

The City's regulations regarding sanitary sewers are contained in Chapter 1040 of the Codified Ordinances.

Sewer Backflow Prevention Device

The City strongly encourages all customers to install a Sewer Backflow Prevention Device to keep sewage from backing up in their home and causing damage. The initial cost of installing a sewer backflow prevention device could save you thousands of dollars in property damage and could help reduce the cost of your homeowners' insurance. Please contact a local, licensed plumber about having a sewer backflow prevention device installed in your home.
